Camping in the Black Hills
One of the most common things to do in the Hills!
If you are in the National Forest, there are numerous forest service run parks that you can find and reserve your campsite. There is a selection of cabins, group camping, RV camping, and more. To make a reservation, you’ll need to go to their reservation website.
Note that there are numerous privately owned campsites throughout the Hills that satisfy every craving – the backpack in sites, the KOAs, the horse camp sites. The options and opportunities are endless!
Hiking in the Black Hills
Ready to get out, stretch your legs, and see some pretty awesome scenery on top of a Hill somewhere? This page of the National Forest’s site contains information about day hikes in the Hills as well as backpacking trails (for those of you more adventurous than me…)
Check out the list of trails as well to get a great idea of what challenge you’d like to hit next. It lists the Forest Service trails by name, length, difficulty and elevation. Pretty handy for serious hikers looking to hit them all!
Fishing in the Black Hills
Whether you love to fish from the boat on the water, the canoe in the pond, fly fish at the stream, or fish on the hard ice (not me on that one…) the Black Hills has a place for you.
Check out the various fishing locations and information about South Dakota fishing licenses (gotta do it legal!)
